Chevrolet introduced a luxury car back in 1970. That luxury car was the Chevrolet Monte Carlo. It had European style, American luxury, and American power all in one. When they introduced the car, the car was selling like candy. They wanted to add some muscle to the combination so they introduced the Monte Carlo SS454. This particular Chevrolet Monte Carlo is a real SS454 that was found in a garage in New Jersey with only 50,000 miles on the clock.
Chevy sold around 130,000 Monte Carlos back in 1970. In 1971, they sold around 120,000. Most of those cars came out of the factory with a 350 or a 402 V8 under the hood. Well, 2,000 buyers liked bigger engines so they got the SS option. The SS option featured the big 454 V8 engine which made around 365 horsepower. It was a two-year option only. In 1972, Chevy decided that the 454 was a lot of muscle in that car so they stopped making SS454 Monte Carlos. As I mentioned this car is a highly original car with only 50,000 miles. That means that the engine under the hood is original and numbers matching. The engine is hooked up to a 400 Turbo Hydramatic transmission and a 12-bolt rear end. This car has a very luxurious interior with a lot of cool options. The interior of this car is in a very original shape.
This car doesn’t need a lot of work to make it perfect. It needs some detailing and a good clean up. With a big block 454 engine under the hood and the SS emblems on the exterior, this truly is a very rare and special car.
