Ford updated a lot of car models midway year. That is why we have ’63½ Falcon, the ’64½ Mustang, and the 1963½ Galaxie like this one. The midway year changes of the Galaxie were a redesign and a lot more powerful engine options. This particular car was a Police Interceptor that was optioned out with a 390 V8 engine that made 330 horsepower and it was hooked up to a 4-speed manual transmission.
In 1964 Ford gave the Galaxie another redesign which means that these midway Galaxies are very rare and hard to find. While the 427 R-Code Galaxies took the most attention, the 330 horsepower 390 wasn’t slow. Unfortunately, when the owner found this car, this beast had a 352 V8 engine that made 220 horsepower. If you want the correct experience I would advise you to track down a period correct 390 V8. The owner mentions that this beast will need a complete restoration and that it also has some rust issues. All of the old cars have rust issues that need to be addressed with but as I can see from the pictures I would say that the rust issues on this car are minor and that with a little amount of time and money you can make this car roadworthy again.
Overall, this is a very rare car and also a good project. Of course, it will need some work, but in the end, you get a very rare Police Interceptor and I would say you also get one of the first muscle cars ever.
