Last week we featured a 1969 Charger R/T Plum Crazy. This week the debate is about something more powerful and rare. This beast is a 1970 Charger R/T 440 Six Pack that came with a lot of rare options such as the Hemi Orange color.
1970 is the last year of the second-generation Charger and I would say the best year. The only thing different from the ’69 Charger was a new front loop bumper. Of course, you had the R/T trim which made this Charger more powerful in the looks and also in the engine. This particular Charger is very rough. This beast has been sitting from 1989 to 1999 in a barn and then it was thrown in a junkyard until now. The VIN of this car checks out that this is a 1970 Charger R/T 440 Six Pack finished in Hemi Orange color. This beast has a lot of rust issues in common places like the floors, the trunk and etc. The roof of the car seems to be in good shape except for the white vinyl cover which is missing.
As you can see the interior is mostly missing. The floors are very rusty as mentioned and most of the interior is in the trunk. Most of the interior parts have been bought because this beast was sitting in a junkyard. As I mentioned this beast has the 440 Six Pack engine which made 390 horsepower. I did some research and found out that only 684 Chargers were optioned with this engine in 1970 which makes this beast probably a 1 of 10 made car with the Hemi Orange and the other features. The original engine is long gone and this Charger now has a 400 V8 engine hooked up to a 3-speed automatic transmission. The owner didn’t mention if the transmission is original or not.
This Charger has a lot of restoration potential. The only thing that is very bad is the fact that the original engine is missing. Those engines are very hard to find and I hope that the person who will restore this beast would find one. A Charger like this one in perfect condition can be easily worth six figures.
Where is this junkyard located?? That looks exactly like a Charger my dad owned and I kept “in good shape” until 1981. I still have some polaroid pics of the Charger,,,
