Horsepower wars began way before the muscle car era. In my opinion, the Galaxie Q Code was the first muscle car. It had a 427 V8 engine that produced around 410 horsepower back in 1963. If that isn’t a muscle car I don’t know what is. This particular Galaxie is a real Q Code car. It was found in a barn and it is 1 of only 1000 made in 1963.
The engine under the hood isn’t the original engine. This beast has a replacement 427 and a replacement 4-speed transmission. The original engine and transmission are long gone. Ford had high hopes of winning the NASCAR races with the 427 under the hood back in 1963. The interior of this car is original but it isn’t in a good condition. I really like the blue-on-blue color combination.
This car will never be an all-original Galaxie. However, it will be a very fun and very fast car to own. An original 1963 Galaxie Q Code can reach up to six figures. This one probably can’t. This car will need a complete restoration and I am sure that it will get it. With 410 horsepower under the hood, someone will enjoy this car very much.
